Why do Mormon and LDS give their children both boy and girl names?

I've moved to a state that has many Mormon and LDS followers. I noticed in the Obituaries they list the departed as follows: Thomas (Katie) Young

Left behind daughter Nancy (Paul), Anne (Todd), Sons Greg (Barbara), Sean (Melissa) ,so on and so on.

I was wondering why the men/boys have boy names and girl names and the women/girls have both girl names and boy names. Why do Mormon and LDS give their children both boy and girl names?
That is their spouses name. Thomas is married to Katie, Nancy is married to Paul, Anne to Todd, etc.
It is the spouse. It is do also when referring to women's madden names. It isn't just in Utah. That is standard form in public announcements. P.S. LDS and Mormon are the same religion. Actually the official name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints-- hence the LDS.

I'm not Mormon, but live in Utah where 2/3rds of the population is Mormon. Are you in Utah? I never noticed that in the obituaries, but then I usually only skim the obituaries and don't read them in depth unless it's someone I know. Now you have me wondering, so later today when I read the paper, I'll pay closer attention.

Though, I have noticed that many obits have wonderful things to say about the deceased...and maybe that has to do with Mormons belief of paying tribute to someone who's passed. Why do Mormon and LDS give their children both boy and girl names?
Those are spouse names. It isn't just a Mormon tradition to format the list of children that way, but I don't know how widespread it is.
They were all transsexuals.
It is probably referring to a spouse.
Those are the names of the spouses.
Well being LDS/Mormon all of my life I honestly didn't know we did that, so I'm with the guys who say it's a reference to their spouse.
